Polymeric Coatings for AR-Glass Fibers in Cement-Based Matrices: Effect of Nanoclay on the Fiber-Matrix Interaction

Polymeric coatings are widely used to enhance the load bearing capacity and chemical durability of alkali-resistant glass (AR-glass) textile in cement-based composites. The contact zone between coated yarns concrete matrix plays a major role enable stress transfer has still be improved for full exploitation mechanical behavior composite. As new approach, this paper studies how addition nanoclay particles polymer coating formulation can increase bond organic inorganic matrix. This includes description water-based preparation by dispersing sodium montmorillonites, whereby resulting nanostructure is characterized X-ray diffraction energy dispersive spectroscopy. Single fibers were treated dip-coating. Atomic force microscopy was determine surface roughness, effect on fiber tensile properties studied. Moreover, morphological characteristics compared with results obtained from single pull-out (SFPO) tests. It shown that incorporation nanoclays leads increased interfacial shear strength arising ability nucleate hydration products fiber-matrix zone.
